Enroll your child in progressive Rainbow Preschool
Rainbow
Preschool is a small, progressive community of learners and two
teachers, in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of NE Portland. There
are between 12-15 preschoolers each year which follows the public
school calendar. Children must be toilet trained and attend
all four days. When
children and parents show up at school each morning and afternoon,
community is created.
Progressive education is a way of teaching the whole child in a manner that respects his/her innate curiosity and imaginings about the world. We believe that the world (social and natural) is enough for young children! I love to share the life of our classroom in my blog… Check it out!
There is the social world of Rainbow Preschool (children, families,
teachers, animals) and there is the physical world of Rainbow.
Please take a virtual tour to get a feel for the our latest classroom
arrangement and materials.
The classroom and curriculum evolves according to the interests of the children, but as you know, preschoolers need routine. You can see our routine/schedule on the calendar page. You can also notice that we visit a group of “grandmas and grandpas” every month at the Glisan Care Center. Notice, too, that we visit the Downtown Public Library every month. We take the MAX (just 2 blocks from school) and parents join us for that exciting trip!
There is open enrollment during the year, so if you would like to schedule a visit, or want to know about an upcoming Open House, please give us a call or send an email.
“These are trying times for progressive educators. What is going on in the world at large, as well as the current regressive educational policy environment, can diminish our trust in ourselves, our students, and our colleagues and attack our faith in the possible. We cannot let that happen to us. And we cannot let that happen to those, who, like us, believe that human beings, through education, can improve the society they have helped to create.”
